WASTE TRANSFER SITE

WASTE TRANSFER SITE & GARBAGE PICKUP INFORMATION

All residents within the boundary of our municipality are eligible to receive garbage pick-up. If you are new to the area please call us to let us know you need pick up. Those who wish to bring their own garbage to the WTS can still do so during open hours (see schedule below).

NOTE: There are designated pick up days for designated areas. Pick up occurs every week on your designated day.

MONDAYS*        is the designated day for residents that live on St. Laurent Veterans Memorial Rd and going west to the beach areas, including the strip of Hwy 6 North to Laurentia Beach, as well as residents on Lake Francis Rd and east Twin Beach Rd.

WEDNESDAYS * is the designated day for all other residents of St. Laurent (East of St. Laurent Veteran's and including Hwy 6 to North Boundary), residents of Oak Point, and Johnson Beach.

  • When Monday is a statutory holiday, garbage pick-up will change to Tuesday and Thursday for that week only and the WTS will also be closed on those days and open on Wednesday for that week only.

  • When Wednesday is a statutory holiday, Monday's garbage pick-up will not change but garbage pick-up for Wednesday will change to Thursday for that week only and the WTS will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

  • Other changes will noted via the RM Facebook page, website, newsletter or on local business bulletin boards.

We ask that your garbage be out by 7:00 am on your designated day. Keep in mind that it is your responsibility to keep it safe from animals or weather elements (ie. garbage bins with lid, box with hinged lid for access, etc). Place garbage bags/bins at the end of your driveway (closest to the road but not on it for ease of pick up). Once garbage/recycling have been picked up, it is up to you to remove your empty bins if not permanently in place. If your garbage is not out at the time of pick up, it will be assumed that you do not have garbage that week. NOTE: Pick-ups may fluctuate due to unforeseen circumstances that the employees may be experiencing.

Please adhere to the following requirements for garbage pick-up:

  • There is a limit of 2 bags of household garbage and 2 bags of recyclables for each household per pick up. Any additional bags will have to be brought to the WTS during regular hours. Note: grass/yard clippings will not be picked up as it is not considered household (indoor) waste. Further note that if you are unsure of what is recycled you can contact the RM office for a list.

  • You are still required to separate your garbage and recyclables. Recyclables must be in clear (see

through) bags so that they can be inspected and sorted by the employees. Note: it is not necessary to sort your             recyclables; you can place all recyclables in the same bag. However, it is expected that they be rinsed out/cleaned         (cans, jars, milk jugs, etc.) to eliminate mold or odors.

  • Cardboard and paper should be bundled together to prevent it from flying away or to save the employees from having to sort it from the other recyclables. It can still be placed in with your other recyclables (provided that it fits in the bag) but you are still restricted to two bags of recyclables. If it does not fit you can place your bundle beside the bags but it must be kept dry and safe from elements (weather/animals).

  • You will be responsible to ensure that when your garbage is put out for collection, that it is packaged correctly and with the proper items, kept safe from animals, weather conditions, and other factors to prevent it from being torn and spread throughout the area. If this occurs, it is the owner's responsibility to clean up the mess and not the WTS employee. If not cleaned up, you could be subject to fines and/or charges.

  • DO NOT put out large items or hazardous waste for collection (i.e. furniture, doors, appliances,

construction materials, used oil/chemicals and containers) as they will not be picked up. It remains your                           responsibility to bring these items directly to the WTS.

  • DO NOT place loose or unsecured needles or sharp objects in your garbage or recycling. We are asking for your cooperation to help keep our employees safe.

When visiting the WTS you are required to go through the white building so that staff can verify your items and direct you to the appropriate area to unload. It is also against by-law no. 1/14 to pick through or remove any items from the site. Any issues can be directed to the RM office.

We rely on your cooperation to ensure a timely schedule for pick up, to keep our ditches, roads and fields clean of litter, and safety for all.

If you have any further questions regarding garbage pick-up or WTS regulations or other
information, please contact the RM office at 204-646-2259.
